This year, the Proyectos section, curated by Aaron Cezar, Director of Delfina Foundation (United Kingdom), is titled Performance in Practice and presents performance as a way of processing the world around us. The curatorial proposal looks at how the broad concept of performativity can be applied to everyday life, from social and religious rituals that mark the passing of time to the ‘performance’ of the stock market, which drives our global economic system.
Within visual culture, Live Art has been one of mediums to express performativity, where the human body is considered as an archive of memory and activated to confront contemporary concerns. Proyectos embraces Live Art while also expanding beyond it to consider the role of objects, sculpture, installations and systems in shaping and subverting our bodily experience. Documentation will also be key component through photography and video. Thus, Performance in Practice looks at performativity in its widest sense, both in the production and reception of the artworks.
