Ericka Flórez analyzes the relation between the representation of terror in the Gótico Tropical movies —produced by Luis Ospina and Carlos Mayolo in the 1970s and ‘80s in Cali, Colombia— and the persistence of pre-modern beliefs and cosmogonies in the local popular imagination.

Ericka Flórez (Colombia)

Éricka Florez studied psychology as well as modern and contemporary art history. She co-founded La Nocturna, a platform for the experimentation of discursive and pedagogical formats. She also co-founded La casa en el aire, a space where transdisciplinary forms of teaching children through art are experimented. Her danceable lectures have been presented in different events and spaces in Colombia, México, Lithuania, Holland, Spain and China. Flórez has curated exhibitions in Colombia, including the 14th Regional Artists Salon -Pacific Zone- with Juan Sebastián Ramírez, and the ARTBO 2016 referents section with Pablo León de la Barra. She is the author of books in which art criticism and fiction are linked, such as El Blanco Móvil, Hegelian Dancers, and Ficciones operativas; all published in Colombia. She has published articles and essays in media such as the Guggenheim USB Map Global Art Initiative, in Terremoto Contemporary Art in the Américas, and in A * desk Critical Thinking.
