NC-arte: A platform for art and education

NC-arte is the artistic and educational space of the Fundación Neme, whose fundamental purpose is to contribute to the development of the plastic and visual arts in Colombia. Its mission is to promote, research and contextualize contemporary artistic practices through exhibitions and educational projects that encourage and invite reflection.

Since its opening at the end of 2010, it has offered a high quality program, inviting outstanding national and international artists to intervene in its space with site-specific projects. NC-arte supports practices that operate on the border between art and other disciplines, embracing new languages, conceptual frameworks and curatorial proposals.

Assuming that creativity is not exclusive to artists or cultural agents, but an essential characteristic of the human being, vital in all areas of knowledge and society, the NC-arte Educational Project sees the formats, explorations and proposals of contemporary art as materials to detonate creative thought, understanding it as an engine of meaning and transformation.

From each of the exhibitions, new discourses are promoted with the intention of transforming the passive spectator into an active user. Likewise, different activities are developed such as: experimental workshops, artistic accompaniment and advice to educational institutions, talks, pedagogical material such as the Equipaje para encontrar and the laboratory of creative thinking NC-LAB.

This year we generated a space for creation through virtual mediation formats. We understand this section of ARTBO as a unique occasion to bring the public closer to an understanding of artistic practice that goes beyond the work of art as such and that delves into the idea of creation as the raison d'être of the fair.

Workshop structure

With the aim of experimenting through virtuality, three workshops open to the public were proposed, which addressed different strategies:

Workshop #1, Wednesday, October 28, 4:00 p. m.
"Spaces for Collection hunters". It included two simultaneous activities concerning spaces for art and the act of collecting.

Workshop #2, Thursday, October 29, 4:00 p. m.
"Tell Me How You Create And I’ll Tell You Who You Are". Referring to the roles of art and creative processes in quarantine, which proposed a performance participation within the activity, integrating languages of social networks such as the creation of memes, stickers, gifs, etc.

Workshop #3, Saturday, October 31, 9:00 a. m.
"Processes for Random Artistic Creation". Commissioned by the Bank of Bogotá, which appealed to the creation process for the intervention of one of its new products.
