For ArtBO 2022 Vermelho proposes a selection of recently produced works by Lia Chaia, André Vargas and Iván Argote. With this selection of works, the gallery proposal presents works that discuss the memories of nature through texture, philosophy, anthropology and form. Lia Chaia's works propose an anthropophagic view of nature. André Vargas presents a look through Afro-descendant cosmology. Iván Argote's works relate texture with organic phrases.
Through contemporary art, Vermelho offers a space for dialogue and provocation of actions and reactions in society. Through the artists´ propositions, the gallery aims to offer a wide distribution of art. The intention is to activate the systematization of creative output and collaborations between artists, collectors, institutions, other galleries and the public. Founded in São Paulo in 2002, the gallery represents several generations of Latin American artists. As these artists gained strength and experience, including insertion on the international circuit, the gallery expanded its activities through participation in important South American fairs and also in the most important fairs on the European and North American circuit. As a result of this movement, Vermelho added artists who were important references to the 2000 generation and who uses their affirmed activism as a platform for new discourses exploring the zeitgeist through the visual arts, dance, theatre, literature, music and graffiti.
Lia Chaia was born in 1978 in São Paulo (Brazil), where she lives and works. She is graduated in Fine Arts by Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP). Her work moves through different languages such as photography, video, performance, installation and urban interventions. Among the issues of her concern are the perceptions and experiences of everyday life, as the permanent tension between culture and nature, part of a process of reflection on the way nature has been appropriated by the standards of urban culture. She is also interested in thinking and understanding how the body reacts to stimuli and breaks of the contemporary world.
