TWO GRAPHIC ART WORKSHOP
Since its inception, the gallery has been an observatory for different phenomena and states of matter attracted by its power. Its name is an instrument that articulates and relates the many elements that make up an encounter experience -where one's gaze locates oneself at a specific moment, in a particular place before objects, events, and situations that go beyond what is displayed. The sextant brought the game of references and referencing to navigate, taking advantage of our fascination with the stars in the open sky where they appear with pulsating light that points, indicates, and allows movement. For more than forty years, the work of different artists from various generations and places in Colombia and Latin America has accompanied us. With such diverse travel companions, we’ve had adventures where coincidences, calmness, tensions, unions, and units have occurred. All of them with unique views of what is possible, all of them as transformers and interpreters of reality, as well as creators of new ones. The work of many has built this constellation of meaning at the moment of happening between our spaces.
Gustavo Vejarano's work has been focused on detailed research and deep, of the meaning or presence of energy in things, from the plastic image and the scientific search. Each of the works carried out over many years has a reading and answering a question. During the pandemic where everything was frozen, they emerged with force, from a moment to moment, atmospheres that do not obey any search, are autonomous. They emerged isolated from each other but also in polyptychs, some in color. others in black and white. In this series of works the artist no longer seeks answers but rather It allows you to live with pleasure the shapes and colors that arise.

Feminine practices such as weaving or the use of scraps allow me to generate landscapes and imaginary creatures populating universes inspired by natural patterns. The obsessive repetition of gestures to create layered surfaces and abstract narratives simultaneously function as windows to different places I have traveled to. Each place becomes an archaeological site in which to collect materials and, at the same time, reveal human and non-human structures. Gathering, fixing, uniting, as well as altering, changing and transforming, are constant actions that run through my work. “Collage” encompasses all these actions, while functioning as a technique to address my way of relating to the world, where diversity, difference and care are crucial aspects to preserve life, both human and non-human. My art is like a map, an archive, an experience that goes beyond the concept of drawing as a two-dimensional action and transforms it into a methodology that manifests the complex stratification of a body that travels the world.
I am a cartoonist who draws by drawing. I have always been interested in the lines that are drawn on surfaces and from relationships, the result: a practice where the craft of drawing and teaching coincide in space and time. I have trained – I am still learning – through meeting artists in the workshop/classroom and with my own work, in which I have sought to return to the trivial and poetry. Words in images, words and images in the graphic act are part of my most recent studies, thinking about contemporary graphics and the multiplicity that it is in itself and from itself; as well as the power of the creative process in contemporary and training artists. Attentive listening and careful look.
