Through this exhibition, artist Laura Noguera explores the concept of presence through light. Her theme is candles: born from her imagination, the lighting they generate, the landscapes they evoke, their shapes, their ground, their background and how they consume themselves, what they create, what they cease to be when they burn and, the infinite.
More than two hundred candles painted in oil on canvas in small formats distributed throughout the space light in the room, in colors that appear for the flames when they are lit or the darkness generated when they extinguish. The artist invites viewers to live their own experience because each candle is a story for those who observe it, and thus vindicates their presence in this world.
Mmaison Galería, founded in 2016, is a space designed by architect Andres Murgueitio that aims to provide the city with an independent vision of varied cultural expressions.
Since its beginning, Mmaison has been characterized by its rigor in selecting new talents and paying tribute to contemporary artists, whether they are Colombian or have established a significant link with the country.
Laura Noguera's work reflects her academic studies. Her inspiration comes from a personal experience based on her daily life, her thoughts, uncertainties, insecurities and above all her training process as an artist. The candles become an "obsession" as she clearly defines it, since she finds in them a reflection, a hope, a light to clarify her life. The color of her works is dictated by her mental state and her classical school of painting can be appreciated by the mastery of her technique. Through this exhibition, she proposes that the viewer find a personal reflection from the more than 200 works on display allowing all to identify with one or several candles, generating a personal and unique bond.
