Following the exhibitions of artists like Freda Sargent, Maria de la Paz Jaramillo and Consuelo Gómez, important representatives of Colombian modern art, Mmaison Galería proposes Margarita Gutierrez for this edition of Artbo Fin de Semana.
Gutierrez has been active in the Colombian art scene for more than five decades, participating in many shows. In the 1980’s she participated in the Salon Atenas. She is an important artist of the abstract movement. She studied with Ana Mercedes Hoyos, Manuel Hernandez and Momo del Villar, amongst others.
“Pensando el Mar,” is the chosen title for the show, the result of her work since 2020. Margarita continues to find her inspiration in nature. Her work is characterized by an impeccable execution, a masterful composition, use of color and geometric and organic lines. The show consists of more that 20 large format oil on canvas paintings based on the sea landscape.
Margarita manages to transform the sea into a powerful metaphor during her creative process. Her relationship to this process changes as she researches and understands marine landscapes. Her limits open up in these big formats that permit the viewer to hear the sea, feel its rhythm and appreciate its multiple hues.
These large format canvases will be exhibited in the two main spaces of the gallery. This exposition showcases her great pictorial qualities, making evident her acquired skill, product of her long career. These oil paintings, very much in today’s tendency of a ‘return to painting’, partner the gallery’s commitment to showing exceptional painted works.
Maison Galería honors painting through Margarita Gutierrez’s work and continues its effort in rediscovering landscapes, currently a major trend in the global art scene.
Mmaison Galeria is a space that aims to present an independent vision of the different expressions of art. Founded by the team made up of José Ignacio Casas, Marea Selig and Ana Mosseri in 2016; its mission is to offer an alternative to the existing artistic scene. The space was designed by the architect Andrés Murgueitio. At Mmaison Galeria 'in order to understand the present we must study the past and, with this knowledge we can build the future'. For this reason, the gallery's programming pays homage to important figures of Colombian art. Also showing current artists and young talents, those who will build the artistic future of the country. Most importantly, all share a great sense of respect and rigor for their craft.
